Arsenal Make Spanish Star Their Top Target But He Could Be Off To Chelsea Instead
Arsenal have made Juventus striker Alvaro Morata their top transfer target but reports suggest the Spanish hitman could be off to Chelsea instead
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Chelsea target Alvaro Morata….
Arsenal have made Juventus striker Alvaro Morata their top transfer target as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in a replacement for injured forward Danny Welbeck this summer, according to the Mirror.
Welbeck was cruelly ruled out for nine months having undergoing knee surgery after suffering significant cartilage damage during Arsenal’s 2-2 draw at Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
It means the 25-year-old is once again going to miss the majority of next season having only recently returned from a 10-month absence for a similar injury and it looks as though Wenger is now going to be forced in to the transfer market for a new striker this summer.
The Mirror claim that while the Frenchman has looked at Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi, his prime target is Juventus hitman Alvaro Morata and will jump at the chance of signing the Spaniard if he becomes available.
Morata was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal when he left Real Madrid in 2014 but he ended up heading to Juve where’s he’s impressed during the last two seasons, helping the Turin giants to successive Serie A titles.
The Mirror suggest that Madrid have a buy-back option inserted into the strikers contract and are ready to activate this clause before selling the player on at a profit, and it looks as though Arsenal are ready to renew their interest.
However, the Gunners aren’t the only one’s being linked with Morata as the Express reported last week that Chelsea are also showing a keen interest with the newspaper suggesting that Madrid have already agreed to sell the striker to the West Londoners once they activate his buy-back option.
It’s certainly going to be interesting to see how this all plays out and while any potential deal for Morata is a complicated one, I think he’d be an excellent signing for either Arsenal or Chelsea this summer.

The Gunners simply have to bring in anther striker following Welbeck’s injury and Morata is a versatile forward who’d give Wenger another option in the final third to compliment the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil.
New boss Antonio Conte is expected to overhaul the Chelsea squad after a disastrous campaign and a striker needs to be a priority as they have very little competition for Diego Costa through the middle with Radamel Falcao heading back to Monaco and Loic Remy expected to leave this summer.
