Director Confirms Offer After Arsenal Table £19m Bid For International Star
Borussia Monchengladbach have confirmed they’ve received an offer for Granit Xhaka after Arsenal tabled an opening £19.1m bid for the midfielder.
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, more on Arsenal’s move for Granit Xhaka….
Borussia Monchengladbach have confirmed they’ve received an offer for Granit Xhaka with ESPN claiming it’s Arsenal who’ve tabled an opening £19.1m bid for the midfielder.
The Xhaka-to-Arsenal rumours have been intensifying in recent days with numerous reports offering conflicting accounts on where this proposed deal is at.
The Evening Standard reported last week that Arsenal had submitted a £33.8m offer while the Mirror then claimed that we’d agreed a deal in principal with Gladbach for Xhaka’s signature.
That appeared to tally with what was initially coming out of the Bundesliga club as they were quoted by the Daily Star as saying earlier this week that an agreement was in place with an unnamed club – widely believed to be Arsenal – for the Swiss international.
“There has been a specific offer for the Swiss midfielder [Xhaka].”
“[We have] an agreement with the interested club but [it] is still pending.”
Xhaka himself then appeared to talk-up a move to North London after being quoted by Swiss newspaper Blick as saying that Arsenal are ‘an awesome club’ at a press conference yesterday.
However, Gladbach have now rather confusingly backtracked and claimed that while they have an offer on the table for Xhaka, they suggest it’s below their valuation for the midfielder.
Sporting director Max Eberl is quoted as saying by ESPN:
“There is an offer, but it does not mean that we will allow Granit a transfer for that price. We really don’t need to discuss the fee proposed in the offer.”
Eberl doesn’t give away any details but the report cites German outlet Bild as saying that the offer on the table is indeed from Arsenal and it’s understood to only be for £19.1m (€25m) which falls short of Gladbach’s £30.7m (€40m) asking price.
So that’s where we’re currently at with this saga and I’m sure there are going to be plenty more twists and turns over the coming days. Xhaka is currently with the Gladbach squad on a post-season tour of Switzerland but he’s been left out of the team for tonight’s friendly with FC St.Gallen, which is another indication he’s set for a move.

We’ll have to keep a close eye on development but in the end, I think we’ll see the 23-year-old make a move to Arsenal and I think he’ll be an excellent signing for the club.
