The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Duvan Zapata…..
Udinese president Franco Soldati claims that Arsenal have made a surprise offer to sign Colombian striker Duvan Zapata this summer, according to the Express.
Arsene Wenger is expected to bring in another front-man over the coming months after losing Danny Welbeck for the majority of next season with a serious knee injury that was suffered during the closing stages of last season.
Many players have been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks with Spanish international Alvaro Morata widely reported to be our prime target, however, a surprise name has now been thrown in to the mix.
Udinese president Franco Soldati has been quoted in the Express as saying that Arsenal have put forward a shock offer to sign Colombian striker Duvan Zapata this summer.
The 25-year-old has just completed the first season of his two-year loan at Udinese from Napoli and while the Naples club have the option to recall Zapata and potential sell him on to the likes of Arsenal, Soldati is hopeful the striker will choose to remain at the Stadio Friuli.
The Udinese chief is quoted as saying by the Express:
“There is a clause that allows Napoli to recall him early from the two-year loan,” Soldati told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“He is very happy in Udine, his agent said that too and I hope he can remain with our jersey.
“He also received many offers from abroad, including from Arsenal. However, first we want coach Beppe Iachini to get to know the team so they can make shared decisions.”
Zapata came through the youth ranks at Colombian side America de Cali before heading to Europe in 2013 when Napoli took him to Italy. After scoring 15 goals in his 53 appearances over the next two years, the striker was sent out on loan to Udinese last summer and scored 8 times in 24 Serie A appearances.

There is no doubt we need to bring in another front man this summer but I would be shocked if Zapata was the man Wenger ended up signing. He’s certainly not the established, prolific hitman we’ve been crying out for and I’m sure I wouldn’t be the only underwhelmed supporter if he was our big striker signing this summer.
