Arsenal Handed Boost In Pursuit Of £19m Star As Agent Reveals Active Clause
Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of a defender after the Swiss international’s agent confirmed he now has a release clause in his contract
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Ricardo Rodriguez…
Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Ricardo Rodriguez after the Swiss international’s agent confirmed he now has an active release clause in his contract, according to the Mirror.
Rodriguez has developed in to one of the best full-backs in Germany in recent years and once again impressed last season despite a disappointing campaign for his club Wolfsburg who finished eighth in the Bundesliga table.
The 23-year-old’s potential has seemingly caught the attention of Arsene Wenger with the Evening Standard reporting last week that Arsenal were showing a keen interest in luring the left-back to the Emirates this summer.
We’ve now been handed a boost in our pursuit as the Mirror are carrying a quote from Rodriguez’s agent that confirms the player now has a release clause in his contract so there is nothing Wolfsburg can do to stop him leaving if the terms are met.
Rodriguez’s agent Gianluca Di Domenico is quoted as saying:
“Today, Ricardo Rodriguez has a termination clause, which was not there before. You have to respect the contracts,”
Domencio doesn’t disclose the value of the defenders release clause but the Evening Standard are one of several outlets who claim it’s set at £19m, which is more than reasonable for a player of Rodriguez’s quality in today’s market.
The Swiss international’s agent hinted he could be open to the idea of moving to Italy but Rodriguez recently told reporters himself that he’d love to join Arsenal in order to link-up with international team mate Granit Xhaka.
When asked about the possibility of joining Arsenal, Rodriguez is quoted by the Evening Standard as saying:
“That would be exciting, yes, especially because the room arrangement at Arsenal would be fixed as well.”
So the player is keen on the move and we know we can sign Rodriguez if we meet his reported £19m release clause, so it’s just up to Arsene Wenger to make his interest official and get the deal done.

We’ll have to wait and see whether the boss decides to make his move but if Rodriguez does come to Arsenal this summer it will almost certainly spell the end for Kieran Gibbs as the England international is being tipped to leave after losing his place to Nacho Monreal.
