Man Utd Confident Of Agreeing Deal For Arsenal Target After Tabling Fresh £28m Bid
Man Utd are confident of agreeing a deal to sign Arsenal target Henrikh Mkhitaryan after submitting an improved £28m bid for the Borussia Dortmund attacker
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd table improved bid for Henrikh Mkhitaryan….
Manchester United are growing increasingly confident of agreeing a deal to sign Arsenal target Henrikh Mkhitaryan after submitting an improved £28m bid for the Borussia Dortmund attacker, according to the Mirror.
Mkhitaryan’s future has been up in the air this summer after it emerged that with just one year remaining on his current contract, the attacker has failed to agree terms over an extension following lengthy talks with Dortmund.
The Armenian international has attracted interest from the Premier League with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United strongly linked with a move after seeing him score 23 goals and provide an incredible 32 assists in all competitions last season.
The Express reported last week that Arsenal had opened the bidding for Mkhitaryan with Arsene Wenger identifying the attacker as a potential replacement for Theo Walcott – who’s future at the Emirates is unclear after he lost his place in the first team last season.
However, United soon emerged as favourites to land Mkhitaryan after his agent, Mino Raiola, claimed that the Red Devils are the players ‘dream club’ and he was working hard to persuade Dortmund to let him move to Old Trafford this summer.
Raiola is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“Manchester are Micki’s dream club, he wants to join them by any means. It would be a sin to stop talking.
“We [Raiola and Dortmund] have both taken very different views and fight for them like lions.
“[Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim] Watzke walks 180 degrees into one direction and I 180 degrees into the other. But even though it does not look like it right now, I still hope for a sensible solution.
“Such an offer to join Manchester United might only come once in a lifetime for a player. Nobody can guarantee us that the door will still be open for Micki next season.”
The Mirror claim that after already seeing their opening £19m offer rejected, United have now gone back in with a much-improved second offer worth £28m, which is just short of Dortmund’s reported £31m, asking price.
The German giants have so far refused to cash-in on Mkhitaryan, despite the risk of losing him for nothing in 12 months time, as they are reluctant to lose another key player after already seeing Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan leave this summer.
However, the newspaper says that after tabling their improved bid, United are growing increasingly confident of getting a deal agreed as Jose Mourinho looks to bring in his second major signing since being installed as manager last month.
The Portuguese coach has already splashed out on Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly but he wants to add more creativity to the side and Mkhitaryan would be the ideal solution as Mourinho looks to build a team that’s not only capable of finishing in the top four next season, but challenging for the title.

If Dortmund do decide to cash-in, I’m sure Arsenal won’t give up without a fight as Mkhitaryan would be a sensational signing for the Gunners, but as of now it looks like United are the clear favourites to secure his signature and it would be something of a coup for Mourinho if he is successful in luring the Armenian to Manchester.
