Transfer News: Arsenal In Talks Over £7.7m Brazilian – Man Utd Eye £15m Defender

Arsenal in for Santos

Arsenal have opened talks with Atletico Mineiro over a potential deal to sign Brazilian left-back Douglas Santos, according to the Daily Star.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly on the market for a new left-back to replace Kieran Gibbs with the 26-year-old hotly tipped to leave the Emirates in search of regular football this summer after losing his place to Nacho Monreal.

Several players have been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks but perhaps a surprise name to add to that list is Santos, with the Daily Star citing reports coming out of Brazil that claim the Gunners are in talks over a potential deal.

Santos only joined Mineiro for £2.3m from Udinese last summer but has been in excellent form back in his homeland and recently made his debut for the Brazilian national team during a friendly win over Panama.

The left-back is also seemingly on Valencia and Barcelona’s radar, so Arsenal could face stiff competition for his signature, while the newspaper also says that Mineiro are demanding a transfer fee of £7.7m to sell the player this summer.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Wenger decides to formalise his interest with a firm offer but I’d personally be surprised if the North Londoners went for another Brazilian left-back named Santos after Andre Santos’ disastrous spell at the club!

Man Utd linked with Garay

Next up and the Mirror are reporting that Manchester United are eyeing a move Argentinean international defender Ezequiel Garay.

New boss Jose Mourinho is looking to freshen-up the squad that was left to him by Louis van Gaal as he tries to build a side capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season.

The Portuguese coach has already splashed out on young centre-back Eric Bailly but it’s understood he also wants to sign a more established name to play alongside Chris Smalling next season and it looks as though Garay is on his radar.

The 29-year-old has rediscovered his best form since joining Zenit St Petersburg from Benfica in 2014 and the 32-cap Argentinean would certainly be an experienced addition to the squad if United brought him to Old Trafford.

However, the Mirror claim that Zenit are demanding around £15m to sell Garay this summer while United will also face stiff competition from Inter Milan, so a deal is still a long way from completion.
