Arsenal Turn Attention To 31-Goal Spurs & Liverpool Target Following Vardy Snub
Arsenal have turned their attention to Sporting Lisbon ace Islam Slimani after missing out on Jamie Vardy but could face competition from Liverpool and Spurs
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool are linked with Islam Slimani…
Arsenal have turned their attention to Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani after missing out on Jamie Vardy but could face stiff competition from Liverpool and Tottenham, according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.
Arsene Wenger is on the look out for a new striker after Leicester City confirmed on Thursday that Vardy has turned his back on a proposed move to the Emirates in favour of signing a new deal at the King Power.
Several names have been linked with a move to the North London club in recent days but Portuguese outlet O Jogo claims that Wenger has now made Sporting Lisbon hitman Islam Slimani his new number one target.
The Algerian international has just come off the back of a sensational campaign that saw him score 31 goals in 46 games in all competitions as Sporting finished runners-up behind Benfica in the Primeira Liga table.
With 23 goals in 43 caps for his country, Slimani is certainly proving himself to be a prolific threat in front of goal and Arsenal fans would no doubt welcome him to the Emirates if Wenger could get a deal agreed with Sporting.
However, the Gunners aren’t the only club in the running as O Jogo claim that Liverpool and Tottenham are among the clubs also showing a keen interest in signing the 27-year-old this summer so Arsenal could face some stiff competition for his signature.
Jurgen Klopp has been busy in the market bringing in three new players already this summer but the German coach could be eyeing Slimani as a potential replacement for Christian Benteke, with the Belgian’s future at Anfield in serious doubt after falling out-of-favour.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is in the market for another striker to support Harry Kane as he looks to build a squad capable of coping with Champions League football next season and Slimani would certainly ease the goal-scoring burden on the England hitman.

We’ll have to wait and see whether any of the Premier League trio decide to formalise their interest but the Mirror reported earlier this month that Sporting wouldn’t do business for anything less than the players £24m (€30m) buyout clause, so they better be prepared to dig deep if they want to bring the Algerian to England this summer.
