Jurgen Klopp is hoping to wrap-up his seven the signing of the summer as Liverpool get set to test Leicester City’s resolve with a fresh £8m bid for Ben Chilwell, according to the Express.
Klopp has been extremely active in the transfer market this summer with Georginio Wijnaldum becoming his sixth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Marko Grujic, Sadio Mane, Alex Manninger, Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan and Loris Karius.
However, the German coach is still looking to further strengthen his squad before the close of the transfer window and a new left-back to compete with Alberto Moreno is understood to be Klopp’s priority with Chilwell his preferred target.
The Reds have been hot on the trail of the highly-rated left-back this summer but have so far been frustrated in their pursuit as they’ve been unable to agree a deal with the newly-crowned Premier League champions.
It looked like Liverpool’s hopes of signing the teenager was set for disappointment as reports over the weekend suggested that Chilwell is close to signing a new and improved contract extension with Leicester.
However, it appears Klopp isn’t going to give up without a fight and is ready to make a fresh attempt to lure the defender to Anfield this summer as the Express claim that Liverpool are set to table an improved £8m offer for his signature.
It remains to be seen how the Foxes will respond to such a bid but they may be tempted to cash-in as Chilwell has just one year remaining on his current contract so he could walk away on a free transfer in 12 months time if a new deal isn’t signed.
The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the best young defenders in the country and is tipped to become a full England international having already represented his country at every youth level up to under-21 so he’d be an excellent signing if Liverpool could pull it off.

With Brad Smith lined-up for a £6m move to Bournemouth [Source: Express], Klopp is going to be short of options at left-back so I certainly think that will be an area Liverpool strengthen over the coming weeks and it appears Chilwell is the man they want.
