Transfer News: £59m Chelsea & Man Utd Striker Target Wants Arsenal Move
Alvaro Morata is eyeing a move away from Real Madrid and favours a switch to Arsenal despite interest from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.
The summer transfer window is in full swing so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Alvaro Morata is keen on joining Arsenal…
Alvaro Morata is eyeing a move away from Real Madrid and favours a switch to Arsenal despite interest from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, according to the Express.
Morata’s future has been the subject of intense speculation in recent months after Madrid activated a £23m buyback clause that was written in to the deal that saw him join Juventus two years ago.
The striker was linked with a whole host of top clubs as it was initially thought that Madrid would immediately sell the 23-year-old in order to turn a quick profit but Zinedine Zidane informed the club he wanted to keep hold of the player this season.
At first, Morata was understood to have been happy with this decision, however, the Express are citing El Confidencial as saying that the striker has now made a u-turn and has told friends he’s concerned about getting regular first team football at the Bernabeau.
With the likes of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo all guaranteed a starting place when fit, it looks like Morata will be consigned to a bit-part role and this was the very reason he decided to leave the club for Juventus in 2014.
The Express claim that the Spanish international has now asked his father and agent Alfonso to push for a move this summer with Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd among the clubs listed as being keen to sign the player.
However, the newspaper suggests that Morata favours a move to the Emirates so the ball is very much in Arsene Wenger’s court, with the Gunners boss recently admitting he needs to strengthen his attack after losing Danny Welbeck to a serious knee injury.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for Lyon hitman Alexandre Lacazette in recent days but Wenger’s plans could now be about to change if Morata is keen on making the move to North London.
If Arsenal do make a formal move, we’ll have to wait and see how much competition they’d face as Antonio Conte has already splashed out on Michy Batshuayi while the Blues are also being heavily linked with Romelu Lukaku so a move for Morata would only be required if Diego Costa was to head back to Altetico Madrid.
Jose Mourinho has already signed his big-name striker after sealing the signature of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the Portuguese coach has indicated that his transfer business will be done if United can land Paul Pogba, so I don’t see United as serious contenders for Morata.

Therefore, Arsenal do appear to be well positioned if the striker ends up leaving Madrid – although Wenger will need to be prepared to dig deep as the Express suggest the La Liga giants will demand £59m for his signature.
