Defender To Undergo Medical On Monday As Arsenal Close-In On £25.9m Deal
Shkodran Mustafi is due to arrive in London to undergo his medical with Arsenal ahead of his proposed £25.9m move from Valencia, according to reports
The summer transfer window is in full swing so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Arsenal’s pursuit of Shkodran Mustafi….
Shkodran Mustafi is due to arrive in London to undergo his medical with Arsenal ahead of his proposed £25.9m move from Valencia, according to a report in the Daily Star.
Arsene Wenger has been desperately scouring the market looking to bring in another centre-back after Gabriel joined Per Mertesacker on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.
Mustafi emerged as our prime target and the Times reported earlier this month that Arsenal chiefs were locked in negotiations with Valencia officials trying to thrash out a deal.
The 24-year-old’s agent, Ali Bulut, was then quoted in the Metro as saying that personal terms had been agreed between the centre-back and Arsenal but we’ve still been struggling to secure a fee with the Spanish giants.
However, it looks as though there may have been a breakthrough as the Daily Star are citing Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli as saying that a £25.9m deal will be completed as long as Mustafi’s muscle injury turns out to be nothing serious.
The German international missed training this week after picking up a minor knock and it appears Arsenal just want confirmation that it’s not serious before pushing ahead with this proposed move.
As long as things go to plan, Giulianelli suggests that Mustafi will undergo his medical on Monday. He’s quoted as saying on Twitter by the Daily Star:
“Arsenal: looks like Mustafi will be agreed tomorrow.
“Club were waiting to see if injury would heal as expected. Looks to be €30m (£25.9m) #afc.
“Mustafi medicals with Arsenal expected to be on Monday.”
We’ve heard ‘updates’ from several journalists over the past few weeks so I’d personally take Giulianelli’s claims with a pinch of salt until something more concrete comes out.
However, time is running out and Wenger is going to need to get this deal agreed soon if we’re going to have it wrapped-up before the window closes as we need to leave ourselves enough time to go for a replacement if this proposed transfer falls through.

I still think Mustafi is the man we’ll end up signing and he should be an excellent addition to the squad as he’s become one of the best centre-back in La Liga over the past couple of seasons and he’ll give us real depth at the back.
