Chelsea Steal March On Arsenal With Audacious Attempt To Sign £60m-Rated Attacker
Chelsea have stolen a march on Arsenal after making an audacious attempt to sign a £60m-rated attacker. Find out all the details here.
The transfer window is now drawing to a close so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are linked with James Rodriguez…
Chelsea have made an audacious attempt to sign Real Madrid attacker James Rodriguez on a season long loan but have been told they’ll need to pay £60m to sign the player on a permanent basis, according to the Mirror.
Rodriguez moved to Madrid from Monaco after impressing at the 2014 World Cup but after an encouraging start to life in Spain the Colombian international has fallen out-of-favour at the Bernabeu.
The 25-year-old made just 17 league starts last season and was left on the bench for all the major games including the Champions League final against bitter rivals Atletico Madrid.
The attacker has once again failed to start under Zinedine Zidane at the start of this season and he’s fallen even further down the pecking order following the sensational rise of youngster Marco Asensio.
Zidane admitted at the weekend that Rodriguez’s situation was a ‘problem’ but he’ll try to make every player feel important. The Madrid boss is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“James is a Real Madrid player. When I answer these questions, it feels as though I want him to leave.
“But he is a Real player and he is under contract. It’s true that he has played less minutes and that can be a problem. I always try to make every player feel important. James is the same as the others.”
It’s led to speculation that Rodriguez could be on the move during the closing days of the window in search of more regular football and the Mirror cited reports from Spain last week that claimed Arsenal and Chelsea were leading the race for his signature.
It’s looks like Chelsea have now stolen a march on their London rivals with the Mirror reporting today that the Blues have made an audacious attempt to sign Rodriguez on a season long loan deal.
The newspaper suggests that the Colombian and his family are open to the idea of moving to England, however, Madrid president Florentino Perez has rejected the loan move proposal and made it clear to the west Londoners that he’ll only sell if it’s a £60m permanent deal.
We’ll have to wait and see whether Chelsea will be willing to pay that kind of money for the player or indeed if Arsenal decide to step-up their interest in light of the Blues’ offer, but I think Rodriguez would be an excellent signing for either club.

He’s not been given the chance to fulfill his potential at the Bernabeu as he’s been overshadowed by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale but I could see him being a real hit if he was given a more prominent role at a new club.
