The transfer window is now drawing to a close so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea close in on Marcelo Brozovic…
Chelsea look set to win the race for Marcelo Brozovic after having a £21m bid accepted by Inter Milan for the Croatian international midfielder, according to a report in the Express.
Brozovic made his name at Dinamo Zagreb before joining Inter on an initial loan move that was eventually made permanent back in the 2016 January transfer window.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a solid season in Serie A last year having scored 7 goals and provided 8 assists in his 35 appearances to help Roberto Mancini’s men secure a top four finish in the table.
However, the Croatian stars future at the San Siro is in serious doubt as the Mirror claim Inter need to balance the books following the arrival of Joao Mario from Sporting Lisbon and Brozovic is understood to be the player who’s been made available for transfer.
The newspaper carried quotes from the players agent over the weekend that suggested Arsenal and Chelsea were in pole position to land the midfielder with the London duo believed to be willing to pay an acceptable transfer fee.
Miroslav Bicanic is quoted by the Mirror as saying:
“It’s true, there are many options and we are talking about some big European clubs,”
“I heard that Chelsea representatives are in Milan and that Arsenal are also prepared to sign him. Inter are pushing to sell to one of these two clubs who are prepared to pay a sum that satisfies all concerned.”
It appears Chelsea are now closing in on the signing of Brozovic as the Express are reporting this evening that the Blues have had a £21m offer accepted and the player is understood to be keen on making the move to London – although personal terms are yet to be agreed.
I said over the weekend that I’d be shocked if Arsenal splashed out serious money on another midfielder as Arsene Wenger already has a wealth of talent available to him in the middle of the park so it’s no surprise that Chelsea look to have won the race.
Antonio Conte has made it clear he’s keen to further strengthen his squad during the closing stages of the window and while defence is his priority, the Italian tactician could be about to bring in another midfielder amid rumours Cesc Fabregas could be leaving.

Even if Fabregas stays, Conte has deployed a system that requires three central midfielders at Stamford Bridge so he’s going to need plenty of options over the course of the season and Brozovic would be an excellent addition.
