The summer transfer window is closed for another year but it’s now time to look back on those deals that didn’t go through and those that are being lined-up for the future. Today, Real Madrid move to fend off interest in Gareth Bale….
Real Madrid have moved to try and tie down Gareth Bale to a bumper new deal worth a whopping £91m in order to fend off interest from Manchester United, according to the Mirror.
United have been linked with a move for Bale for some time and reportedly missed out when he made a then world-record £85m move to Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur back in 2013.
Bale has been a big success at the Bernabeu having scored 61 goals and provided a further 46 assists in his 131 appearances to help the Spanish giants win two Champions League trophies and one Copa del Rey.
Despite his success in Spain, there have been constant rumours suggesting the attacker could be tempted by a return to England and the Express reported last month that Man Utd had made an approach to try and lure the Welshman to Old Trafford next summer.
United proved last summer that they have the financial power to pull off major transfers after smashing the world record to sign Paul Pogba in an £89m deal from Juventus and it looked as though the Red Devils were trying to put in the ground work for another significant transfer.
However, it appears the threat posed by United has forced Madrid to step-up their attempts to tie Bale down to an extension as the Mirror are now reporting that the La Liga giants have offered the 27-year-old a lucrative deal worth £91m.
And it appears United have been dealt a huge blow as the report, which originates from Spanish radio station Cope, suggests that Bale has already put pen-to-paper on the new deal and has therefore committed his long-term future to Madrid.

This news is unlikely to go down too well in Manchester as Bale would have been a sensational signing for United if they had managed to pull it off but the only positive is that the Mirror suggest that Jose Mourinho has now set his sights on Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann.
