Man Utd Hit By Double Injury Blow But Duo Could Return To Face Man City
Manchester United are set to be without two key players for their EFL Cup clash with Manchester City but Luke Shaw and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are expected to return
Manchester United are set to be without Marouane Fellaini and Eric Bailly for their EFL Cup clash with Manchester City but Luke Shaw and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are expected to return, according to the Mirror.
Bailly limped out of United’s disappointing 4-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon following a clash with Eden Hazard and Jose Mourinho described the injury as ‘really bad’ during his post-match press conference.
The Mirror claim that Bailly underwent a scan on Monday and the initial feeling is the Ivory Coast international will miss at least a month, meaning he’s out of tomorrow night’s Manchester derby and is facing a race against time to be fit for the Arsenal game next month.
Fellaini also sustained a knee injury at Stamford Bridge on Sunday after being on the receiving end of a horror tackle from David Luiz and was substituted at half-time, so the Belgian international is now set to miss the City game.
Wayne Rooney is also a doubt as he missed the trip to the capital on Sunday after suffering a thigh problem in training so we’ll have to wait and see whether the skipper is passed fit for the visit of Pep Guardiola’s side to Old Trafford.
However, Luke Shaw and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are fit and available for selection and are expected to be in contention for a place in the squad after missing the defeat to Chelsea over the weekend.
Shaw is being eased back in to action after only recently recovering from a groin injury that kept him out for several games but the England international could get a recall to replace Daley Blind at left-back tomorrow night.
Mkhitaryan’s situation is a little less clear as the Armenian international has struggled to make an impression since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund in the summer and has been left out by Mourinho despite recovering from a thigh injury earlier this month.
The playmaker wasn’t selected in the squad for the Chelsea game due to concerns over his fitness and he hasn’t featured since the defeat to City in September but the Mirror suggest he could be back in the frame tomorrow night.
