Manchester City will be looking to book their place in the quarter finals of the EFL Cup when they take on rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Ahead of the game, Pep Guardiola has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given ManCity.com a team news and injury update.

The Spanish coach has confirmed a huge injury blow with the news that Kevin De Bruyne will miss the United match after suffering a calf injury during the 1-1 draw with Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

De Bruyne was forced off at half-time and Guardiola says there is no chance the Belgian international will be able to face United tomorrow night while he’s also a doubt for this weekend’s trip to West Brom.

In a double blow for the visitors, Guardiola also revealed that Pablo Zabaleta is a doubt for the United clash as he continues to recover from a foot injury and with Bacary Sagna still absent, City will struggle to field a recognised senior right-back at Old Trafford.

However, there was some positive news on the injury front as Vincent Kompany hasn’t suffered any reaction having made his first league start since April at the weekend but the skipper will be assessed at training to see if he’s ready to play a second game in four days.

Guardiola told the clubs website:

“Kevin, no way, he cannot play. Hopefully West Brom but he is doubt even for the weekend.

“Pablo I think cannot play against United.”

“Vincent I think he can but I don’t know today. I need to see training and regeneration [before making a decision].”

City head in to the game tomorrow night having not won any of their last five games in all competitions so the pressure is on Guardiola to see-off their Manchester rivals and book their place in the draw for the next round.
