Arsenal Star Hector Bellerin Offers Update On Injury Recovery
Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has offered an update on his recovery from an ankle injury and is hoping to be back playing inside the next four weeks
Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has offered an update on his recovery from an ankle injury and is hoping to be back playing inside the next four weeks, according to the Mirror.
Bellerin has been on the sidelined since suffering ankle ligament damage during our 1-1 draw with Tottenham at the start of November following a strong tackle from Danny Rose in the final minute.
The right-back was allowed to join up with the Spanish under-21 squad during the subsequent international break but was forced to withdraw after scans showed ligament damage.
Boss Arsene Wenger confirmed the news at his pre-match press conference on November 17th ahead of our game at Manchester United and suggested that Bellerin would be out for around four weeks.
However, the 21-year-old has now offered an update on his recovery and while he says it’s going better than he had expected and is set to resume running later this week, the full-back says he is still around four weeks away from returning to action.
Bellerin is quoted as telling the Mirror:
“It’s going really good. Better than I expected,”
“It is a hard injury to recover from and a bit painful.
“But I am going to try to be running from this week and hopefully I’ll be back on the pitch in less than four weeks.”
The newspaper says an optimistic return date would be for our trip to Manchester City on December 18th but realistically Bellerin will be targetting either the West Brom game on Boxing Day or the visit of Crystal Palace on New Years Day.
It means that Hector is set to miss another 5-7 matches in all competitions including tough away games against Everton, West Ham and Man City so it’s a real blow to our Premier League title chances.
Mathieu Debuchy was a potential replacement but the Frenchman is also set for another spell on the sidelines after suffering a suspected hamstring injury during our 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday.
Carl Jenkinson started against Man Utd and PSG and Wenger also has the option of deploying Gabriel or Rob Holding at right-back but none come close to Bellerin’s quality so we’re really going to miss him over the coming weeks.
