Agent Confirms Offer Amid Reports Of £38m ‘Done Deal’ With Man Utd
The agent of an international defender has confirmed that offers are on the table amid reports that Manchester United have agreed a £38m deal.
Managers are now making moves to try and strengthen their squads during the January transfer window or next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, more on Manchester United’s move for Victor Lindelof….
The agent of Victor Lindelof has confirmed there are offers on the table for the Benfica defender but insists no deal has been agreed with Manchester United yet, according to ESPN.
Lindelof joined Benfica in 2011 having come through the youth system at Vasteras SK and has established himself as a vital part of Rui Vitória’s first team having started in all 20 of their games so far this season.
The 22-year-old’s potential has seemingly caught the attention of Jose Mourinho as ESPN claim that Man Utd are trying to push through a deal to sign the defender in January having previously planned to move for him in the summer.
The Daily Star reported earlier this week that a £38m deal was close after Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira had flown over to Manchester to hold face-to-face talks with United officials while the Mirror claim that the transfer is a ‘done deal’ after Lindelof supposedly told friends that he moving to Old Trafford in January.
The centre-backs agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, has now confirmed that offers are on the table and he’ll discuss things with Benfica over the coming days but he insists that no deal has been agreed with any club as yet.
When quizzed about a deal with United, Cetinkaya is quoted as saying by ESPN:
“Victor doesn’t have a deal with any club. Victor still has a contract with Benfica.
“I can’t comment on specific clubs. I can only say that there are offers on Benfica’s table, which they can assess. And I will have a meeting with Benfica, too.
“Victor is young and is already playing for a big club that are fighting for titles and advanced in the Champions League. He has a key role in the club, you have to be careful and think things through. It’s about considering what is best for him at the moment.”
Without reading too much in to Cetinkaya’s comments, he does appear to suggest that Lindelof may have concerns about leaving Benfica at this stage of the season as he points out that the player has an important role at the Portuguese club.
The agent also says that Benfica are through to the knockout stages of the Champions League and have a huge double header with Borussia Dortmund to look forward to so perhaps Lindelof is reluctant to complete his move to United until the end of the season.
We’ll have to wait and see how things progress but if Lindelof does end up joining United next month then it will be interesting to see whether Mourinho decides to offload one of his current central defenders.
Phil Jones has been excellent since regaining full fitness in recent weeks while Marcos Rojo has rediscovered his best form alongside the England international so it would be harsh for Mourinho to sell either of them.

Eric Bailly has proven to be a superb signing and is no doubt the future of United’s defence so there is no way he’ll be going anywhere any time soon so Lindelof’s arrival could cast serious doubt over the future of Chris Smalling.
The 27-year-old hasn’t played for United since Mourinho publicly questioned his commitment to the team after Smalling refused to play with what turned out to be a broken toe back in October.
