Managers are now making moves to try and strengthen their squads during the January transfer window or next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with Lassana Diarra…
Manchester United are lining-up a surprise move for Marseille midfielder and long-time Jose Mourinho favourite Lassana Diarra this month, according to a report in the Metro.
United’s midfield has been impressive for most of the season with Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba all enjoying some excellent form so far in the middle of the park.
However, with Morgan Schneiderlin being strongly tipped to leave Old Trafford this month after becoming frustrated with a lack of first team action, Mourinho could be on the look-out for a replacement who may be more content with a bit-part role.
And it appears the Portuguese coach could be ready to turn to a familiar face as the Metro are citing a report coming from Foot Mercato that claims United are eyeing a surprise swoop for Diarra.
The French international is well known to Mourinho as he signed him during spells at both Chelsea and Real Madrid and it looks like the United boss is keen to be reunited at Old Trafford.
Having spend a couple of years in the wilderness of Russia, Diarra has enjoyed something of a renaissance in recent times since joining Marseille on a free transfer in the summer of 2015.
The 31-year-old was excellent back in Ligue 1 last season and was expected to be part of the French squad at Euro 2016 before being ruled out through injury.
Diarra has plenty of experience in the Premier League having had spells at Arsenal and Portsmouth as well as spending time at Chelsea so he’d be a solid back-up option in midfield if United did manage to get a deal agreed.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but it could turn out to be a shrewd piece of business by Mourinho as Diarra could be an experienced replacement for Carrick with the 35-year-old out-of-contract this summer and yet to be offered a new deal.
