Arsenal & Chelsea Battle For £25m International, Move Expected This Summer
Arsenal and Chelsea are set to battle-it-out over the signing of a £25m-rated international star with the player expected to complete a move this summer.
Managers are now making moves to try and strengthen their squads during the January transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Ricardo Rodriguez is linked with a move to the Premier League….
Chelsea have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Ricardo Rodriguez with the Wolfsburg defender expected to complete a £25m move away from Germany this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.
Rodriguez has developed in to one of the best left-backs in the Bundesliga since joining Wolfsburg from Zurich in 2012 and he’s also become a regular for the Switzerland national team with 43 caps to his name so far.
It looks like the 24-year-old has attracted interest from the Premier League with the Mirror citing a report coming from L’Equipe that claims Chelsea have joined Arsenal in the race to sign the defender at the end of the season.
The newspaper states that Rodriguez is fully expected to leave the Volkswagen Arena this summer as Wolfsburg have endured a difficult campaign that sees them currently languishing down in 12th position in the table.
However, Arsenal and Chelsea aren’t the only clubs in the running as the Mirror says that Marseille are also vying for Rodriguez with the French clubs new billionaire owner Frank McCourt prepared to finance a move for the £25m-rated star.
Rodriguez would be an excellent signing for the Gunners as Nacho Monreal hasn’t been up to his usual high standards this season while Kieran Gibbs is being tipped to leave the Emirates this summer after failing to hold down a regular place.
But the Swiss international would also be a great addition for Chelsea as Antonio Conte could certain do with another attack-minded left-back to compete with Marcos Alonso and Rodriguez would fit the bill perfectly.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I think Rodriguez would be an excellent signing for either of the London duo and £25m isn’t a bad piece of business in today’s market for a player who’s got his prime years ahead of him.
