Arsenal are preparing a £50.9m bid and a contract worth £6.8m-per-season after opening talks with Borussia Dortmund over the signing of Marco Reus
Managers are now making moves to try and strengthen their squads during the January transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Marco Reus….
Arsenal are preparing a £50.9m bid and a contract worth £6.8m-per-season after opening talks with Borussia Dortmund over the signing of Marco Reus, according to a report in the Express.
Reus has developed in to one of the best attackers in Europe since joining Dortmund from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012 with the 27-year-old scoring 80 goals and providing a further 59 assists in his 172 appearances so far.
His form has led to reported interest from Arsenal as Reus has been linked with a move to the Emirates for several years and the speculation has resurfaced this month amid doubts over the future of Alexis Sanchez.
The Chilean international is in the final 18 months of his contract and we’re no closer to tying him down to an extension so fears are growing that we’ll be forced to cash in if he doesn’t commit his future to the club before the summer.
Understandably, Arsene Wenger is already drawing up a list of potential replacements and the Express are citing a report from WhoScored that claims the boss has identified Reus as the man he wants should Sanchez leave.
The report indicates that we’ve already opened talks with Dortmund over a deal for the attacker and are preparing a £50.9m bid while we’ll tempt Reus with a five-year contract worth £6.8m-per-season.
Any potential deal would wait for the summer when Sanchez’s future should be resolved but Dortmund are under no immediate pressure to sell the German international as he still has two-and-a-half years left on his contract.
We’ll have to wait and see whether a bid worth in excess of £50m could persuade the Bundesliga giants to sell but Reus would be a fantastic replacement for Sanchez if the 28-year-old does end up leaving the club this summer.
Like most fans, I’m desperate for Alexis to stay and sign a new deal but until that happens, there is a very real danger that the club will have to sell this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing in 2018 so I’m glad to hear we’re already working on potential replacements.

Reus is one of the most dangerous attackers in Europe so he has all the qualities to fill Sanchez’s boots, however, he has had plenty of injury problems in recent years as he’s made just five league starts this campaign so his signing would be something of a calculated risk.
