The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Arsenal and Chelsea are linked with Yannick Carrasco…
Arsenal and Chelsea are leading the race to sign Yannick Carrasco and can sign the Atletico Madrid attacker for £40m this summer after he fell out with Diego Simeone, according to the Sun.
Carrasco has developed in to one of the most exciting attackers in Spanish football since moving to Atletico in 2015 having previously spent a five-year spell at Monaco.
The 23-year-old was enjoying the most prolific campaign of his career after scoring 10 goals in his 32 appearances in all competitions but his form has tailed off in recent weeks following a bust-up with boss Diego Simeone.
The row has led to speculation that Carrasco will be on the move again this summer and understandably he’s attracting plenty of interest with several top clubs throughout Europe being touted as potential suitors.
However, the Sun are reporting that Arsenal and Chelsea are now leading the likes of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain in the chase for Carrasco’s signature at the end of the season.
The newspaper says that following his fall-out with Simeone, Atletico are open to the idea of cashing-in on the Belgian international and would be prepared to do a deal if £40m was put on the table.
That sort of money shouldn’t be a problem for clubs with the financial fire-power of Arsenal or Chelsea, especially with the new lucrative TV deal kicking in next season, so it’s easy to understand why they are reportedly in pole position to land Carrasco.
The youngster is predominantly played from the left wing at Atletico but he’s capable of playing anywhere across the attacking positions so he’d be a very useful addition for any squad.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but I think £40m for a talent like Carrasco in today’s market would be a decent deal so it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal or Chelsea decide to formalise their interest this summer.
