Arsenal To Hijack Chelsea’s Attempts To Sign Prolific £40m Hitman

The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Arsenal join the race for Moussa Dembele….
Arsenal will hijack Chelsea’s attempts to sign Moussa Dembele by making their own move for the £40m-rated Celtic striker this summer, according to the Mirror.
Dembele came through the youth ranks at Paris Saint-Germain before making his name in England during a three-year spell at Fulham where he scored 17 goals during the 2015/16 campaign.
The French under-21 international joined Celtic last summer and has developed a reputation as one of the most prolific young strikers in Europe having taken his tally to 26 goals in his 40 appearances so far with sensational back-to-back hat-tricks over the past two games.
The 20-year-old has understandably caught the attention south of the border with the Guardian reporting last month that Chelsea had expressed their interest in signing Dembele and made a late attempt to land him during the closing stages of the January transfer window.
A move failed to materialise but the Mirror suggest that Chelsea have maintained their interest and are expected to renew their attempts to sign the striker at the end of the season.
However, it looks as though the Premier League leaders will face stiff competition as the newspaper says that Arsenal have now joined the chase for Dembele’s signature this summer.
The report indicates that the Gunners will make their own move for Dembele at the end of the season with the north Londoners hoping to beat the likes of Chelsea to his signature over the coming months.
Understandably, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to keep hold of the Frenchman but realistically it’s going to be difficult to hang on to him and the Mirror claim the Glasgow giants will cash-in if a £40m bid is put on the table.
That sort of money shouldn’t be a problem for the likes of Arsenal or Chelsea, especially with the new TV deal kicking in, so it’s going to be interesting to see how things develop ahead of the summer.

Obviously it would be a big step up from Scottish football to the Premier League but Dembele is a huge talent with a bright future ahead of him so I think he’d be a superb addition for either of the London duo if they were able to win the race for his signature.
