Man Utd Identify Two New Targets As Mourinho Steps-Up Striker Search
Manchester United are eyeing Kylian Mbappe and Robert Lewandowski as alternatives to first choice striker target Antoine Griezmann this summer
The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Man Utd identify two new striker targets….
Manchester United are eyeing Kylian Mbappe and Robert Lewandowski as alternatives to first choice striker target Antoine Griezmann this summer, according to the Independent.
Jose Mourinho is gearing up for a busy summer with a top class striker on the agenda as Wayne Rooney is expected to leave at the end of the season after failing out-of-favour this campaign.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic – who turns 36 later this year – is yet to sign a new contract and a long-term replacement for the Swedish superstar is needed so Mourinho is set to delve in to the market for a new hitman.
Griezmann has been widely reported to be United’s number one target with the French international enjoying another prolific campaign having scored 20 goals and provided a further 10 assists so far this season.
However, the Independent claim that United are now becoming increasingly concerned that a deal is going to be extremely difficult to pull off this summer as Atletico Madrid are desperate to keep hold of their star man ahead of their move to a new stadium next season.
The Independent say that Mourinho is still keen to get a deal done but acknowledges that it’s going to be difficult and there is a concern that Griezmann may hold out for a move to Real Madrid.
Griezmann was also quoted by Sky Sports as saying last month that he had concerns about living in England so it seems Mouriho has now started to work on alternatives with Mbappe and Lewandowski on his radar.
The report indicates that United will register their interest in signing Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe after watching the 18-year-old emerge as one of Europe’s hottest properties this season.
The French youngster has scored 15 goals and provided a further 10 assists for Monaco this season so he’s got a huge future ahead of him and would be an exciting addition to the United squad.
The Independent also claim that United are considering testing Bayern Munich’s resolve to keep hold of Lewandowski, despite the fact the striker signed a new deal recently.
Lewandowski is undoubtedly one of the best frontmen in world football and he’d be a marquee signing if United could pull it off but any deal is going to be extremely difficult.

So if United can’t land Griezmann it looks like they are eyeing moves for a young hotshot with huge potential in Mbappe or an established world class striker in Lewandowski.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but it’s gearing up to be another exciting summer at Old Trafford with the club eyeing some ambitious targets.
