Arsenal Expected To Complete Signing Of £8.7m La Liga Star
Arsenal are set to trigger an £8.7m release clause in Florian Lejeune’s contract and snap up the Eibar centre-back this summer, according to reports
The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Arsenal are linked with Florian Lejeune…
Arsenal are set to trigger an £8.7m release clause in Florian Lejeune’s contract and snap up the Eibar centre-back this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.
Lejeune has enjoyed a mixed career so far having failed to settle during stints at several clubs including Agde, Istres, Villarreal, Brest and Girona while he also spent a season with Manchester City in 2015 before joining Eibar last summer.
The 25-year-old looks to have finally found his groove as he’s put in some excellent performances in Spain this season with the defender playing a key role in Eibar’s surprise form with the minnows currently sitting eighth in the La Liga table.
It appears Lejeune’s performances have alerted Arsenal as the Mirror are citing a reporting coming from Marca that claims we’re plotting a formal move for the Frenchman this summer after tracking him in recent months.
The Spanish outlet suggests that Arsenal are expected to complete a deal for the centre-back at the end of the season by triggering an £8.7m release clause in Lejeune’s contract.
Who knows how much truth there is behind this report as there is always plenty of speculation in the media but Marca are a solid source in Spain so there could be some foundation to these rumours.
Despite question marks over his own future, it looks like Arsene Wenger is pressing ahead with his summer transfer plans but I must admit I’m a little surprised a centre-back is a priority for the boss.
We splashed out big money on Shkodran Mustafi last summer and he’s formed a encouraging partnership alongside Laurent Koscielny while Per Mertesacker has already penned a one-year extension.

We have Gabriel on the books as well as impressive young English duo Rob Holding and Callum Chambers so I personally feel we’re well stocked at centre-back and struggle to see where Lejeune would fit in if he does end up moving to the Emirates, unless at least one of our current players is sold.
