Arsenal have stolen a march on Liverpool and Chelsea after holding talks with Schalke defender Sead Kolasinac about a potential move to the Emirates this summer, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
Kolasinac has developed in to one of the best left-backs in German football since being converted from a central midfielder by boss Jens Keller two seasons ago.
The Bosnian international is set to leave the Veltins-Arena this summer as his contract expires in June and he’s free to speak with foreign clubs about a free transfer after failing to agree terms over an extension.
Understandably, the 23-year-old has been attracting plenty of interest with the Daily Mail claiming that Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Juventus have all registered their interest in signing the full-back.
The newspaper says that Chelsea are expected to renew their pursuit after seeing a £5.3m bid rejected by Schalke during the January window while City and Liverpool are also thought to be desperate to land the sought-after defender.
However, it looks as though Arsenal have now stolen a march on their rivals as the Daily Mail report says the Gunners have held further talks with Kolasinac’s agents about a move to north London after making initial contact in January.
Despite on-going doubts over his own future, it appears Arsene Wenger is pressing ahead with transfer plans and a new left-back is on the agenda with Kieran Gibbs set to leave in search of regular football.
Nacho Monreal has also come under criticism for his performances this season so it looks as though Arsenal have now identified Kolasinac as the man to solve their problems at left-back.
However, until a deal is agreed we can’t discount the likes of Chelsea as Antonio Conte is expected to bring in another attacking left-back to compete with Marcos Alonso and Kolasinac would be a superb addition to the champions-elect squad.

Liverpool are also in desperate need of a top class left-back as James Milner has had to fill-in for much of the season and Jurgen Klopp knows he needs a specialist in that position if the Reds are to become genuine title challengers next season.
