Manchester United are increasingly confident they’ll be able to complete a £50m deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos this summer, according to the Mirror.
Jose Mourinho is gearing up for another busy summer in the transfer market and a centre-back is now a priority after Marcos Rojo was ruled out for up to nine months with a cruciate knee ligament injury.
There are doubts over the futures of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling so it looks as though Mourinho will bring in at least one new central defender and it seems he wants to pair Marquinhos alongside Eric Bailly at the back next season.
The Brazilian international has long been linked with a move to United and the Mirror claims Mourinho is ready to formalise his interest after making him his top defensive target ahead of the summer.
PSG have always been reluctant to lose the talented South American, however, the newspaper report suggests that United are increasingly confident they’ll be able to secure a £50m deal to take Marquinhos to Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old joined PSG from Roma in 2013 and has played a key role this season following the sale of David Luiz to Chelsea last summer but it seems he could now be following his compatriot to the Premier League.
Marquinhos still has two years left on his current contract but the Mirror says United are urging the defender to force a move out of France with the player understood to be keen on the idea of a new challenge here in England.

We’ll have to wait and see how things progress over the coming months but Marquinhos would be an excellent addition if United could get a deal agreed and I think he has the potential to form a rock solid partnership alongside Bailly for years to come.
