Arsenal are on the verge of announcing the signing of Alexandre Lacazette after the striker completed his medical ahead of a proposed switch from Lyon that could cost £52m, according to Sky Sports News.
Arsene Wenger has been in the market for a new striker this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for the title after missing out on the top four last year and Lacazette emerged as a prime target.
The 26-year-old enhanced his reputation as one of Europe’s most prolific strikers after netting 37 goals in all competitions to help Lyon finish fourth in Ligue 1 last season.
Widespread reports in recent weeks have claimed we’ve been in negotiations with the French outfit over a deal and Sky Sports say our opening £39m offer was rejected last month.
Talks continued between the two clubs and Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas recently confirmed that the striker was expected to join Arsenal after a breakthrough was reached in negotiations.
Sky Sports say the fee could rise to £52m including add ons – which means it will be a club record deal – while Lacazette flew in to London today to undergo his medical after agreeing terms over a five-year contract.
It appears the move is now on the verge of completion as Sky Sports are one of several media outlets who are reporting that the French international has now successfully undergone his medical at London Colney this afternoon.
All that’s left is for the paperwork to be completed so we could even see an official announcement over the coming hours as Arsenal close-in on our second major signing of the summer following the free transfer arrival of Sead Kolasinac from Schalke.

Once his move is complete, Lacazette will add a real goal threat up front and I think he’ll be a huge upgrade on our current strikers but his arrival will cast further doubts over the future of Olivier Giroud.
