Arsenal Submit £40m Bid As Wenger Looks To Secure Third Summer Signing
Arsenal have tabled an improved £40m offer for Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar as Arsene Wenger looks to secure his third signing of the summer
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal step-up their interest in Thomas Lemar….
Arsenal have tabled an improved £40m offer for Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar as Arsene Wenger looks to secure his third signing of the summer, according to a report in the Express.
The boss continued to strengthen his squad after splashing out a club record fee to sign Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon earlier this week following the arrival of Sead Kolasinac and it appears a wide attacker is next on the agenda.
Lemar has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks after impressing for Monaco last season with his 14 goals and 17 assists helping fire Leonardo Jardim’s side to the Ligue 1 title.
The Express claim Arsenal saw an opening £31m offer for Lemar rejected by Monaco after Wenger made the French international one of his prime summer transfer targets.
It looks like we’ve now returned with an improved offer as the newspaper are citing a report from L’Equipe that claims Arsenal have tested Monaco’s resolve with a new £40m bid.
The French champions are yet to respond to the improved offer but the report suggests Monaco are determined not to see their title-winning side dismantled and are demanding up to £80m for Lemar’s signature.
Arsenal are almost certainly not going to pay that kind of money for the 21-year-old and Monaco are probably just setting a sky-high asking price to deter interest in the attacker, but I expect Arsenal to continue with their pursuit.
Lemar is predominantly played as a left-sided attacker so the chances are he is being lined-up as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez – who’s yet to sign a new contract and is being tipped to leave this summer.

We’ll have to see how things develop following this reported second bid but I’d love to see Lemar come to Arsenal as he’s a hugely exciting talent – although it will still be a big disappointments if he is signed as Sanchez’s replacement.
