Major Boost For Arsenal As Super-Star Confirms He ‘Definitely’ Wants To Stay
Mesut Ozil has handed Arsenal a boost after confirming his desire is to stay with the club with contract extension talks due to be resumed later this month
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Mesut Ozil wants to stay at Arsenal….
Mesut Ozil has handed Arsenal a major boost after confirming his desire is to stay with the club with contract extension talks due to be resumed later this month, according to quotes in the Evening Standard.
Ozil has been a huge success since joining Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013 as he’s played a key role in helping us win three FA Cup’s over the past four years.
However, the playmaker has just one year remaining on his current contract and so far we’ve been unable to agree terms over an extension despite holding lengthy negotiations with his representatives.
It’s led to speculation linking the German international with a move away from north London this summer, however, Ozil has now handed Arsenal a major boost after confirming his preference is to remain at the Emirates.
The 28-year-old says he is happy at the club and revealed that talks will resume once the squad return to London following our pre-season tour of Australia and China later this month.
Ozil is quoted by the Evening Standard as saying today:
“It is definitely my preference to stay. It is such a great club and I have always said that I feel very good at Arsenal. Once everyone is back in London we will sit down and discuss about the future.
“For now the most important thing is our pre-season and getting through the tour, training and getting fitness. When I’m back in London, we will sit down and discuss.”
Another key player who’s future is uncertain is Alexis Sanchez and there is growing speculation that the Chilean super star will refuse to sign a new deal and wants to join Man City.
Arsene Wenger insists we won’t sell Sanchez even if he doesn’t sign a new contract but Ozil admits it would be a major blow if we were to lose Sanchez this summer.
Like the majority of fans, Ozil is desperate for Alexis to stay at the club but he is in the dark as to what his team mates plans are. Ozil is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard:
“It would hit the team quite hard if he left because he’s a player who always delivers. It would be a setback to winning the title, but in the end it’s the player’s decision.
“I hope Alexis stays but I don’t know what the status is, to be honest. I value him a lot as a player and he’s very well suited to the game Arsenal play.
“From a personal view I’d really appreciate if he stays. But it’s the player’s decision after all and there’s not much more I can comment on that.”

All the signs suggest that Ozil will end up signing an extension but I fear we aren’t going to find an agreement with Sanchez which will leave the club in a dangerous situation as we would lose him for nothing next summer if we don’t cash-in now.
