Arsenal are preparing a late move in the transfer market to beat Tottenham to the signing of Nice’s £36m-rated midfielder Jean-Michael Seri, according to the Daily Mail.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is looking to further strengthen his squad having only signed left-back Sead Kolasinac and striker Alexandre Lacazette so far this summer.
The north Londoners have been heavily linked with Thomas Lemar in recent weeks and the newspaper says they will return with a fourth offer after Monaco rejected their latest bid for the winger.
However, a new central midfielder is also on the agenda as doubts continue over the fitness of Santi Cazorla while Jack Wilshere is expected to leave the Emirates before the end of the month.
Seri has emerged as a viable target as the Daily Star cited a report from L’Equipe last week that claimed Arsenal were in pole position ahead of Tottenham to sign the Nice midfielder – who has a £36m buyout clause in his contract.
The 25-year-old enjoyed an excellent campaign last season as he scored seven goals and set-up a further nine for his team mates to help his club secure an impressive third-placed finish in Ligue 1.
It looks like Arsenal are now poised to formalise their interest as the Daily Mail suggest Wenger will launch a swoop for the Ivory Coast international during the latter stages of the window.
We’ll have to wait and see what Tottenham decide to do as Mauricio Pochettino desperately needs to strengthen his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League this season.
The Spurs boss is yet to sign a single player this summer so they are in danger of being left behind by their big-spending rivals and Seri would provide stiff competition for the likes of Moussa Dembele in the middle of the park if Poch did lure him to White Hart Lane.

Nice may have to reluctantly let Seri leave this summer if he makes it clear he won’t sign an extension as he has just two years remaining on his current deal so we could see Arsenal or Tottenham try to drive down his asking price later this month.
