Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with Marco Asensio….
Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool have made bids to try and lure Marco Asensio away from Real Madrid this summer, according to a report in the Daily Star.
Asensio joined Madrid from Mallorca for just £3m in 2014 and he’s developed in to one of the hottest properties in Spanish football over the past three years.
The 21-year-old has already been capped by the Spanish national team at senior level and chipped in with 10 goals and 4 assists for Madrid last season despite starting just 11 La Liga games.
Understandably, Asensio has been attracting plenty of interest as he’s struggled to hold down a regular place in Zinedine Zidane’s side and it’s thought he wants more action ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
It looks like the youngster is being offered the chance to try his luck in England as the Daily Star are citing a report from Diario Gol that claims Arsenal and Liverpool have now made bids to try and sign the attacker.
The Spanish outlet doesn’t specify what the precise nature of their offers were but they do say that although Asensio would prefer to stay at the Bernabeu he will consider a move if Zidane can’t guarantee him regular football.
The French boss and president Florentino Perez are understood to be desperate to keep hold of Asensio as they see him as the long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo but it remains to be seen whether the player can be convinced to stay.
Arsene Wenger is in the market for another attacker after struggling to agree a deal with Monaco for Thomas Lemar and Asensio would be a sensational signing if the Gunners could lure him to north London.
Liverpool could also be on the look out for another attacker amid speculation that Barcelona are going hard for Philippe Coutinho so Jurgen Klopp could be eyeing Asensio as a potential replacement.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but while the Spanish youngster would be a superb signing for either Arsenal or Liverpool, I think he’ll end up staying at Madrid as they are unlikely to let him go without a fight.
