Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final weeks of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd join the chase to sign Thomas Lemar…
Manchester United are ready to try and hijack Arsenal’s attempts to sign £55m-rated Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar this summer, according to the Daily Record.
Lemar has developed in to one of the most promising young attackers in European football after 14 goals and providing a further 17 assists to help Monaco win the Ligue 1 title last season.
The 21-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal all summer and the Mirror reported last week that the Gunners were still in talks with Monaco trying to thrash out a deal.
Arsene Wenger has admitted he’s in the market for more signings before the window closes and the newspaper suggested Arsenal were still confident of getting a deal agreed for Lemar despite seeing two previous offers rejected.
However, it looks like the north Londoners are now facing stiff competition as the Daily Record claim Man Utd are eyeing a move for Lemar after identifying him as an alternative target to Ivan Perisic.
Jose Mourinho has been desperate to strengthen his wide options this summer but the United boss has been frustrated with his attempts to do business with Inter Milan for the Croatian international.
The Daily Record say Monaco are demanding around £55m for Lemar – which is close to what Inter want for Perisic – but the French international is seven years younger so would have far greater potential sell-on value.
In addition, the report suggests Lemar would cost less in terms of wages compared to Perisic so Mourinho is now considering launching a late move to gazump Arsenal.
The news will be a real concern to Wenger as it’s believed the Frenchman is waiting until he offloads some of his deadwood before trying to finalise a deal for Lemar and it seems this delay has opened the door for United.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I think Lemar would be a hugely exciting signing for Arsenal or United if either club was able to lure him to the Premier League this summer.
