Arsenal and Liverpool are facing an uphill fight to sign Jean-Michael Seri as Barcelona are closing in on a £33m deal for the Nice midfielder, according to reports in Spain via Football London.
Seri has developed in to one of the best all-round midfielders in French football since joining Nice from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015 and provided 7 goals and 9 assists to help the club finish third in Ligue 1 last season.
The 26-year-old’s impressive performances have caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League with Arsenal and Liverpool both strongly linked with the player in recent weeks.
Football London claim Arsene Wenger has already held preliminary talks with Nice about a potential deal but has been reluctant to meet Seri’s £33m release clause.
The Gunners boss is being urged to further strengthen his midfield options before the end of the month following Arsenal’s disappointing defeat at Stoke on Saturday and Seri would certainly provide a top class alternative to Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka if he moved to the Emirates.
Liverpool have also been tracking Seri with Football London suggesting that Jurgen Klopp is lining-up a bid for the Ivory Coast international after identifying him as an alternative to RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita.
However, it looks like the English duo could be about to miss out as the report is citing Mundo Deportivo as saying that Barcelona are now closing-in on a deal to sign Seri.
It was thought Barca had ended their pursuit after signing Paulinho last week but the Spanish publication claims the Catalans have now renewed their interest in Seri and hope to seal a deal over the coming days after entering advanced negotiations with Nice.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but it would be a huge blow if Arsenal and Liverpool do end up missing out on Seri as I think he’d be an excellent signing for either club and a real asset to the Premier League.
