Man Utd Chiefs Give Mourinho Go-Ahead To Launch £35m Swoop For Arsenal Star
Manchester United chiefs have given Jose Mourinho the green light to launch a £35m swoop to sign Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil this month
The January transfer window is now open so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, Man Utd are linked with Mesut Ozil…
Manchester United chiefs have given Jose Mourinho the green light to launch a £35m swoop to sign Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil this month, according to a report in the Manchester Evening News.
Ozil’s future at the Emirates Stadium is in serious doubt as his contract expires in June and so far he’s failed to agree terms with the north Londoners over an extension.
The German international could decide to see-out the final six months of his deal and seal a lucrative free transfer move in the summer but it seems United are keen to secure his signature now.
The Manchester Evening News are citing a report from the Mirror that claims Mourinho has been given the go-ahead to test Arsenal’s resolve with a £35m bid this month.
The Red Devils could snap-up Ozil for nothing if they waited until the end of the season but the report suggests United are worried they could lose out to PSG or Bayern Munich so have decided to try and sign the playmaker this winter.
Mourinho knows he needs to add some creativity to his side if they’re to match Manchester City and Ozil could be viewed as a potential replacement for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Armenian international joined United from Borussia Dortmund in 2016 with a reputation as being one of the best playmaker’s in Europe but he’s fallen out-of-favour under Mourinho this season and being tipped to leave Old Trafford.
Ozil would be an excellent replacement, however, it won’t be easy to get a deal agreed with Arsenal as the Gunners still haven’t given up hope of persuading the 29-year-old to sign a new deal.
Even if Arsenal accepted Ozil was leaving, Arsene Wenger would be reluctant to do business with Mourinho as the Frenchman would prefer to see the attacker head abroad rather than to a domestic rival such as United.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but it seems Arsenal’s resolve is going to be severely tested if Ozil doesn’t sign a new deal soon.
