The Sky Italia journalist says the South American midfielder has a £22m release clause in his contract but the agent and Sampdoria are trying to drive up the price by creating an auction between Arsenal and Napoli.
I can’t see us entertaining any bidding war as Emery reportedly has a limited budget of around £50m-£70m set aside for his transfer business this summer so let’s hope Sampdoria don’t try to play hardball.
We desperately need an all-action defensive midfielder to protect the back four and Torreira could an excellent signing as he’s been likened to N’Golo Kante due to his similar playing style.

At 5ft 6in, Torreira won’t be the midfield ‘beast’ many fans feel we need but he’s technically sound, has a terrific work ethic and is an astute passer of the ball so he’d bring other qualities to our midfield.
