Liverpool are ready to launch a swoop to sign Jasper Cillessen after Barcelona made it clear they will sell if £26.5m is put on the table this summer, according to reports in Spain via TeamTalk.
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for a new number one as Simon Mignolet has hinted he’ll be leaving Anfield after falling out of favour during the second half of last season while Loris Karius’s future is in doubt following his horror-show during the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.
Liverpool have been linked with the likes of Alisson Becker and Jan Oblak in recent months but with Roma and Atletico Madrid demanding huge money for their goalkeepers, Cillessen has emerged as a potential target over the past few weeks.
Speculation earlier this month [via TeamTalk] suggested that Liverpool had made an approach to Barcelona over the Dutch international’s availability and were initially pointed towards his €60m [£53m] release clause.
However, TeamTalk are now carrying a report from Sport that claims Liverpool have been given the green light to push ahead with a move for Cillessen after Barca made it clear they will now cash-in for just £26.5m.
The Dutch international is set to return to pre-season training next week and the Spanish publication says he will inform Barca officials that he wants to leave the Nou Camp this summer so a move to Liverpool is on the cards.

Cillessen made his name at Ajax where he won 3 Eredivisie titles before joining Barcelona in 2016 but his time in Spain has been frustrating as he’s been forced to play second fiddle to Marca-Ter Stegen and made just 11 appearances last season.

Understandably, the 29-year-old want’s more regular first team football and an asking price of £26.5m is sure to be far more appealing to Liverpool bosses so I think Cillessen would be a very solid addition to the Reds squad if they could lure him to Merseyside.
