Arsenal are in talks with Sevilla over a potential deal to sign midfielder Steven N’Zonzi as Unai Emery continues to overhaul his squad this summer, according to Sky Sports News.
Emery has already signed goalkeeper Bernd Leno, centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos and right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner this summer while a deal to sign Sampdoria defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira is expected to be completed next week after Uruguay were knocked out of the World Cup yesterday.
However, with Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere leaving this summer after failing to sign new contracts, Emery could be in the market for two central midfielders and N’Zonzi has emerged as a prime target in recent weeks.
Emery knows the 6ft 5in midfielder extremely well as they won two Europa League trophies together during their time at Sevilla and it seems a reunion could be on the cards as Sky Sports claim Arsenal are in talks with the La Liga outfit about a potential deal.
Sky’s claim comes after El Confidencial reported last week that N’Zonzi had handed in a formal transfer request to try and push through a move to the Emirates after our opening £13.2m offer was rejected.
N’Zonzi – who has two years left on his contract – has a buyout clause set at around £35m but the Spanish publication says Sevilla are prepared to do business if Arsenal increase our offer to £22m.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be prepared to match that asking price but it seems our interest in signing N’Zonzi is genuine and I think the powerful midfielder would be a solid addition to the squad.
The 29-year-old has experience in the Premier League having previously played for Blackburn and Stoke and he’d certainly add a much-needed physical presence to our team in the middle of the park.

N’Zonzi is currently in Russia representing France at the World Cup so any potential deal will have to wait until after the tournament but it will be interesting to see how Emery lines-up in midfield next season if we do end up buying N’Zonzi as well as Torreira this summer.
