Latest Transfer News: Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal & Tottenham…

By on January 30, 2011

There has been a surprising amount of big name and big money moves going on this window, especially considering that the January window is usually quite slow and over hyped. Names such as Fernando Torres, Gareth Bale, Andy Carroll and Carlos Vela are the big names today, the day after Luis Suarez finally signed for Liverpool.

Suarez/Torres

First of all, is Luis Suarez the partner or replacement for Torres at Anfield? The Spanish striker has submitted a transfer request to his club which has swiftly been rejected with a club statement asking Torres to honor the commitment he made to both Liverpool and the fans. His current contract ends in 2013, and it is believed that Chelsea have offered £35 million for the privilege of Torres playing in the blue shirt. Liverpool are now awaiting an improved offer, and despite a reported bid of £40 million and Danny Sturridge in the pipeline, Liverpool will do everything they can to fend Chelsea off their star striker.

Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale hasn’t expressed his desire to leave Tottenham like Torres has, but he is certainly attracting attention from top clubs around Europe. Inter Milan have felt the full force of Bale’s brilliant left foot already and feel it would be better for them if he was on their side rather than the oppositions. However, they don’t want to pay the £40 million valuation that Spurs have placed on Bale. Inters sporting director said that he received an email from the Tottenham chairman stating £40 million wouldn’t be enough, and the Inter director replied by saying that the large amount isn’t compatible with their strategies. Perhaps Liverpool should value Torres at something ridiculous and get rid of pursuers that way?

Andy Carroll

Newcastle have rejected a bid for Andy Carroll of £23 million. The Magpies have once again been forced to reiterate the simple fact that the England striker is not for sale, and a Newcastle source called the bid ‘paltry in the current climate’. The strikers 11 goals this season have helped his club to a respectable 9th in the League, and it his frightening presence up the field that has made him such a threat for Newcastle against opposing defenders that is attracting Spurs. Spurs know from Bale, that clubs with good players can be ever so stubborn about letting them go.

Carlos Vela

Finally, Carlos Vela has officially joined West Brom on loan. The Arsenal striker was strongly linked to a move to Bolton, and Owen Coyle revealed that he had spoken to the players agent, but after being demanded to pay both the wages of the player and additional fees, pulled out.

Vela made only 13 appearances for Arsenal this season and 62 in total, scoring 11 times for the Gunners and the the West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo welcomed Vela to his club:

”I’d like to officially welcome Carlos, who is an exciting signing for this club. Carlos is a new attacking option for us who can play both centrally and in the wide areas.

”He also has great technical ability and pace and we’re hoping he can make a big impact during the remainder of the season.”

Chelsea should try to add some new bloods for their clubs. However, if not applicable, I always want my team Chelsea at the top.

Chelsea would hardly be on the top because of the rivals they have like man c, man u, arsenal and liverpool it should be easy for them to be on the top five but not at first or second because they had difficulties at the begining

It almost certain that Chelsea wont be winning any trophy, unless two good buy is made, one is CB and other is CM. Buy and good player instead of Benayoun, arghh nevermind. Hell never listen.

Typical Chelsea. When the going gets tough, buy. When the going gets tougher, buy harder. This is the exact behaviour that destroys the integrity of the game. Up the Arsenal!

all u clubs in the top “5” bar arsenal just buy your way out of trouble. ruined the game. your clubs treat the league as tho its FM Manager. you really shouldnt be proud of your antics..

    January 30, 2011 at 1:38 pm

    Yeah, Arsenal never buy….
Guys like Marouane Chamakh just miraculously appear at the Emirates.
Arsenal have one of the most expensive squads in the EPL and you’re as much a part of the spend culture as the others. The only thing you lack is an oil-rich sugar-daddy otherwise you would be Man City.
If you think you’re Blackpool then you’re in total denial.

    • HeAintKidding

      January 30, 2011 at 2:51 pm

RUKidding, you are a great big joke. Firstly, Chamakh was free. He joined on the Bosman ruling. I really don’t know where you get your facts from.

Secondly, Arsenal part of the spend culture my ass. The only lavish spending they’ve done has been on the Emirates Stadium, and that has ended up gifting them a financial stability that would make many of the top clubs flush green with envy.

And finally, we don’t want an oil-rich-sugar-daddy. We’ve not taken a liking to our club becoming the toy of a tinkering Russian madman, or having to deal with the stupid antics of a bunch of Americans fooling with our $$$. You can enjoy all that if it tickles your fancy. I’d rather steer clear of that and enjoy Wenger make phenomenal progress without driving the bank account into the ground.

And another thing. We’re not Blackpool. With all respect to them, we’re the club they’re trying to emulate. Holloway himself has said so.

      Jog on, son.

Chamakh came on a Bosman. What you been smoking bro?

Arsenal indeed have one of the most VALUABLE squads in the BPL. I bet we could easily fetch a MINIMUM of 25million each for players such as Nasri, Fabregas, Walcott, v.Persie, Arshavin, Song, Vermaelen, and even Wilshere. But I can tell you with my eyes closed that the price we bought them for would barely hit 50million for all of them COMBINED.

Please. Don’t be so ignorant to say that we spent a fortune on them. Arshavin is our RECORD SIGNING. And he only cost us 15mil.

Do some reading before you run your mouth.

Haha, RUkidding u douchebag. All football clubs make signings, Yet some offset spending money by developing young players. If Wenger spends £10m on a player, it’s a serious statement that they make great potential or would complement the Wengerball that all Arsenal players are taught.

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood claimed that even if they had billions, they wouldn’t just throw it at expensive mercenaries (City), it’s not the Arsenal way. We currently have something like 13-15 great young players on loan. So suck my balls.

    @Ian Lpool,
You said your team is in building up and want Torres to stay. By the time your team are fully rebiuld Torres already in wrong side of 30s, and warming the Bench. SO can’t faulty him if he want to get out of liverpool, and Liverpool getting 30M-45M in exchange sound a bit fair to rebuilt the team right???. Arsenal let all thier star player go ( Viera, Henry) when they decide to rebuilt the team. they only keep Fabregas so by the time it fully rebuilt Fabregas is in is prime.

Full creds to Wenger. He built a team with a good foundation — Henry Pires Viera Overmars and now with youth and style — Fabregas, Nasri, Song, Van Persie, Sagna…

I wish Liverpool had done half what Wenger did for Arsenal… Selling Torres for $50m quid and some new blood is temporary solution to get us up that table.

    January 31, 2011 at 5:25 pm

Why are the Arsenal fans talking like during their prime they didnt pretty much buy out most of the french team that won the 1998 World cup. During the time you lot were wining everything , you spent money for the team that did that , so dont come with this ‘holier than thou’ crap now , just because you lot dont have the money to do that anymore .
I mean well done to Wenger for balancing the books and all , but when winning trophies was the priorty for you lot, you were splashing out on the transfer market just like everyone else.

I think Wenger is just the best manager in the league because loaning Carlos Vela is the best way of building competitive confidence in him the way Welshire has become and for the clubs that have bought players expensively i think it’s too late because they had to do that in the summer but we wish them luck not this season but next season
