Mourinho Wants Man Utd Chiefs To Go Big To Sign 28-Year-Old Ahead Of Liverpool
Jose Mourinho will urge Manchester United bosses to go big in order to beat Liverpool to the signing of Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey next summer
The transfer window is closed but managers are already planning ahead for January and next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip. Today, the latest on Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey…
Jose Mourinho will urge Manchester United bosses to go big in order to beat Liverpool to the signing of Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey next summer, according to the Mirror.
Ramsey has been a key player for Arsenal since joining the club from Cardiff City ten years ago as he’s provided 60 goals and 60 assists in 340 appearances and has netted some important goals to help the Gunners win 3 FA Cup’s in recent years.
However, the Welsh international is in the final year of his contract and looks set to end his association with the north Londoners after Arsenal withdrew a new contract offer that had been on the table for several weeks.
The Mirror claim that Unai Emery was behind the decision to back out of a proposed £185,000-a-week extension as the new Arsenal boss feels such an outlay would hinder his transfer budget next summer.
The Spaniard is looking to continue his rebuilding job at the Emirates in the post-Arsene Wenger era by bringing in further new signings over the coming transfer windows and Ramsey’s huge contract would have been another burden on Arsenal’s already stretched wage bill.
The Gunners could look to cash-in in January when they can still command a fee but the 27-year-old has suggested he’s ready to run down the final months of his contract to secure a lucrative free transfer next summer.
Ramsey will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January and has said in the past he’s tempted by a move abroad but the midfielder will also have plenty of options if he decides to remain in England.
The Mirror claim that Manchester United are ready to make a fresh attempt to sign Ramsey after missing out on the player to Arsenal ten years ago but they’ll face stiff competition from rivals Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp strengthened his midfield options last summer with the arrival of Naby Keita and Fabinho but with James Milner coming towards the end of his career, the Liverpool boss could be eyeing Ramsey as the ideal replacement.
However, the report says Mourinho will urge Man Utd chiefs to do all they can to land Ramsey ahead of Liverpool as the Portuguese coach is a long-term admirer and feels the Welshman would be a great addition to his squad.
The long-term futures of Ander Herrera and Juan Mata at Old Trafford are in serious doubt so Ramsey could be viewed as the ideal solution in midfield and he’d certainly bring an added goal threat if he did join United.
We’ll have to wait and see how things progress over the coming weeks but it looks like United and Liverpool are ready to do-battle over Ramsey’s signature and he’ll be a superb signing on a free transfer for whoever comes out on top.
