Double Blow For Klopp: Liverpool Duo Expected To Miss Trip To Arsenal
Jurgen Klopp is set to be handed a double blow with Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson expected to miss Liverpool’s trip to Arsenal this weekend
Jurgen Klopp is set to be handed a double blow with Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson expected to miss Liverpool’s trip to Arsenal this weekend, according to the Evening Standard.
Keita has missed Liverpool’s last three matches in all competitions after suffering a hamstring injury while away with the Guinea squad during the international break last month but there were hopes he could be available to face Arsenal after resuming light training last week.
However, the midfielder was still not able to rejoin full training with the rest of the Liverpool squad on Wednesday afternoon so time is running out for the 23-year-old to recover in time for the trip to north London.
Henderson has also sat out the last two matches against Red Star Belgrade and Cardiff City due to a hamstring injury that he suffered during the win over Huddersfield Town last month and the England international is also yet to resume full training.
No doubt Klopp and his medical team will give Keita and Henderson every chance to prove their fitness but with just two days left before the game, the Evening Standard says it’s unlikely either player will be able to line-up against the Gunners on Saturday evening.
That would be a blow to Klopp as it would limit his options in the middle of the park for this crucial match. However, if Keita and Henderson do miss out then Fabinho will hope to make a third consecutive start after impressing in the past two games.
James Milner could be an option for Klopp after being named on the bench against Cardiff last weekend but the German coach will still be keen for Keita or Henderson to make a late recovery and put themselves in the frame to start against Arsenal.
Klopp has received some positive injury news today as the newspaper also says that Mohamed Salah is expected to be fit to start against Arsenal despite training with a cast on his wrist yesterday.
Liverpool head to the Emirates sitting level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table but with Arsenal just four points behind in fourth spot, the Merseysiders will want to cement their position with a positive result on Saturday.
