Liverpool Team News: Klopp Confirms Major Boost But Duo Ruled Out Of Arsenal Trip
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed a major fitness boost but two other players will miss Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Arsenal on Saturday.
Liverpool will be looking to go top of the Premier League table with a win when they take on Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday evening.
Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and he’s provided a full team news and injury update ahead of the game with the latest on Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah.
Keita has sat out Liverpool’s last three matches after suffering a hamstring injury during the international break last month and Klopp says the Guinea midfielder is due to return to full training today. However, Keita won’t have enough time to get himself fully-fit to be in contention to face Arsenal so the 23-year-old will miss the trip to north London tomorrow.
Henderson has been forced to miss Liverpool’s last two games against Red Star Belgrade and Cardiff City after picking up a hamstring injury against Huddersfield Town last month. The England international won’t be ready to resume full training until the start of next week so he’ll also miss the Arsenal game on Saturday evening.
However, there was more positive news on Salah as Klopp confirmed the forward is fit to take on the Gunners tomorrow. Fears grew over Salah’s fitness after he was spotted with a bandage on his wrist in training this week. But Klopp says the Egyptian international is simply using a splint due to inflammation in his wrist and will be fine to start against Arsenal on Saturday.
The Reds boss told Liverpoolfc.com:
“Hendo feels really good but it will be probably the start of the week when he will be back in training.
“Naby end of this week. It doesn’t make a big difference match-wise, but that’s how it looks.
“Mo, it is nothing really serious; it’s a kind of inflammation of the tendon. That’ pretty much all, it [the support] was only for protection – the pictures you saw were only protection and it has no influence.”
The only other injury concern for Liverpool is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the midfielder will obviously miss out against his former side as he continues to work his way back to full fitness from a serious ACL injury.
Liverpool head to the capital sitting level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table so Klopp will be desperate to keep the pressure on Pep Guardiola with a positive result at Arsenal.
