25-year-old determined to join Arsenal as Gunners continue talks over £20m deal
Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez has set his sights on joining Arsenal this month after rejecting a proposed £20m move to West Ham
The January transfer window is open and managers are working hard on strengthening their squads and identifying targets for the summer so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest rumours. Today, Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Denis Suarez….
Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez has set his sights on joining Arsenal this month after rejecting a proposed £20m move to West Ham, according to the Mirror.
Suarez joined Barcelona in 2013 following two years in the Manchester City youth team and enjoyed a season on loan at Sevilla working under Unai Emery during the 2014/15 campaign.
The 25-year-old has struggled to establish himself under Ernesto Valverde this season as he’s played just 8 minutes of La Liga football and understandably the midfielder has grown frustrated with his bit-part role at the Nou Camp.
It’s led to speculation linking Suarez with a move this month and the Mirror claim Arsenal have opened talks with Barcelona about a move to the Emirates as Emery looks to be reunited with the player in north London.
The newspaper says Arsenal chiefs are hoping to sign Suarez on an initial loan deal with a view to making the transfer permanent in the summer if things work out but Barca want guarantees we’ll pay £20m at the end of the season.
The impasse opened the door for West Ham to make their move with the Mirror claiming the Hammers tabled a £20m bid over the weekend and Suarez was left out of the Barca squad for the win at Getafe on Sunday night.
However, the report says the midfielder has rejected the proposed move to the London Stadium because he has his heart set on joining Arsenal and is holding out for a switch to the Emirates.
It’s now down to Arsenal to reach an agreement with Barcelona but understandably the Catalans want a permanent deal secured now as Suarez has just 18 months left on his contract so his value will decrease in the summer.
With Aaron Ramsey tipped to join Juventus and the long-term future of Mesut Ozil in doubt, we need to bring in reinforcements and it looks like Emery has set his sights on Suarez but we’ll have to wait and see if a deal can be agreed.
