Arsenal make contact over deal to sign 27-year-old South American star
Arsenal have instructed intermediary agents to open talks over a possible deal to sign James Rodriguez – who’s currently on loan at Bayern Munich
The January transfer window is open and managers are working hard on strengthening their squads and identifying targets for the summer so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest rumours. Today, Arsenal have stepped-up their interest in James Rodriguez…
Arsenal have instructed intermediary agents to open talks over a possible deal to sign James Rodriguez – who’s currently on loan at Bayern Munich, according to the Independent.
Rodriguez made his name during spells at Porto and Monaco but became a world-wide name after producing some magnificent performances for Colombia at the 2014 World Cup which earned him a big-money move to Real Madrid that summer.
The 27-year-old provided 36 goals and 40 assists in 111 appearances for Los Blancos but still struggled to hold down a regular first team place and was eventually sent to Bayern Munich on a two-year loan deal in 2017.
The South American has once again failed to establish himself as an important part of Niko Kovac’s side having started just 5 Bundesliga games this season and it’s led to speculation his loan could be cut short.
Arsenal have now emerged as potential suitors as the Independent claims we’ve instructed intermediary agents to hold talks over the possibility of bringing Rodriguez to the Emirates Stadium this month.
The newspaper says Arsenal are willing to take over the final part of Bayern’s deal to sign Rodriguez on an initial six-month loan ahead of a potential permanent transfer with Madrid keen to cash-in this summer.
The Independent suggest that all parties are open to the idea but Arsenal could yet face competition from Napoli as the Serie A giants are also keen on taking Rodriguez to Italy this winter.
Unai Emery has already confirmed he’s hoping to strengthen his squad after losing Danny Welbeck for the rest of the season while Mesut Ozil has fallen out-of-favour under the Gunners boss in recent months.
We certainly need more top quality options in the final third and Rodriguez would be an exciting signing, plus he’s capable of playing anywhere across the attacking positions so his versatility would make him a useful asset for Emery.
