Arsenal are set to re-open talks to sign £17m-rated Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega as Unai Emery looks to bring in at least three new faces this summer, according to the Mirror.
With Aaron Ramsey agreeing to join Juventus on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season, Arsenal are going to be in the market for midfield reinforcements and it appears Banega remains a prime target.
The Argentinean international was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium last summer while he was touted once again during the January window but Emery was unable to push ahead with any deal after being told there was no money available for permanent transfers.
However, Arsenal chiefs will loosen the purse-strings in the summer when new commercial deals kick-in and the Mirror claims that Emery is ready to renew his interest in signing Banega.
The newspaper says Arsenal will re-open negotiations with Sevilla over a deal and could snap-up the South American midfielder for just £17m due to a buy-out clause in his contract.
Many will have reservations about Banega due to the fact he’ll turn 31 in June but it seems Emery is determined to link-up with him again having previously managed him during spells at Sevilla and Valencia.
Banega is a central midfielder who’s known for his excellent passing range, he’d obviously know Emery’s system well and he has 65 caps for Argentina so on one hand he’d be a welcome addition to the squad.
However, his age is a real concern and I can’t help but think we need better if we’re to seriously build a squad that capable of competing with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool next season.
It’s promising to be another busy summer in north London as Emery continues to overhaul the squad he inherited from Arsene Wenger and the Mirror claims that as well as a new midfielder, Arsenal are also in the market for a new left-back and wide forward.

Nacho Monreal is being tipped for a move back to Spain so it looks like Emery wants a replacement for him while we need another winger as we have a lack of width in the squad and Danny Welbeck is likely to leave when his contract expires in June.
