Man Utd vs Liverpool preview | Latest team news | Expected line-up’s | Prediction
Here is our match preview ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Liverpool including team news, line-ups and prediction
Manchester United will be looking to tighten their grip on fourth place with a win when they welcome title-chasing Liverpool to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
United head in to the game in buoyant mood after booking their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with an impressive 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
However, it’s Premier League matters at hand tomorrow and Man Utd have gone unbeaten in their last nine league games to move in to the top four but with Arsenal and Chelsea just one point behind they need a positive result against Liverpool to cement their position in the Champions League places.
Liverpool head to Old Trafford off the back of a slightly disappointing 0-0 draw with Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie but Jurgen Klopp will be determined to come away with something against United to boost their title hopes.
The Reds sit level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table with a game in hand and with Pep Guardiola’s side playing in the League Cup final tomorrow, Liverpool can move clear with a positive result at Old Trafford.
Team news
United will hand a late fitness test to Anthony Martial after he missed the Chelsea game with a groin injury while Jesse Lingard is also a doubt with a hamstring injury but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping both players will be available.
David de Gea is set to return in goal after being rested in the FA Cup last time out but Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo remain unavailable for selection.
Liverpool will still be without Dejan Lovren due to a hamstring injury but Virgil van Dijk returns after missing the Bayern Munich stalemate through suspension.
Joe Gomez is still working his way back from an ankle injury while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also not available yet despite stepping up his rehabilitation from a serious knee injury.
Expected line-ups
Predicted score
Man Utd 1-1 Liverpool: United have won seven of the last nine home league games against Liverpool and they’re certainly a far stronger team than the one that lost 3-1 in the reverse fixture at Anfield under Jose Mourinho earlier in the season. However, Liverpool will be fighting for everything as they look to move ahead of City in the title race and I think they’ll get something from this game. I’m going for an entertaining 1-1 draw.
