Klopp dealt late injury blow as Liverpool confirm squad for Bayern Munich trip
Liverpool have confirmed their 21-man travelling squad ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League last-16 second leg with Bayern Munich.
Jurgen Klopp has been dealt a late injury blow after Liverpool confirmed their 21-man travelling squad ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League last-16 second leg with Bayern Munich.
The Reds trained at Melwood this morning for the last time before heading out to Germany this afternoon and concerns were raised over the fitness of Naby Keita after he failed to take part in the session.
Those fears have now been realised as Liverpool have confirmed on Liverpoolfc.com that Keita has been ruled out of the trip to the Allianz Arena tomorrow night due to a minor injury.
The news will come as a blow to Klopp as he looks to book Liverpool’s place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League with either a victory or a score draw against Bayern good enough following their 0-0 stalemate at Anfield in the first leg.
However, there is more positive news on Trent Alexander-Arnold as the full-back has been included in the travelling party after overcoming a minor back problem that forced him off against Burnley at the weekend.
Alexander-Arnold was withdrawn from the 4-2 victory on Sunday as a precaution but the 20-year-old was able to train this morning and should now be in contention to start against the Bundesliga champions.
James Milner is also on his way to Germany after taking part in full training at Melwood today following a minor knock while youngsters Nat Phillips and Caoimhin Kelleher have also been included in the 21-man squad.
It means the only significant absentees other than Keita are Joe Gomez – who’s still working his way back from a fractured leg – and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The midfielder made his return with a run out for the Liverpool U23’s last week but isn’t ready for first team duties just yet.
Here is the Liverpool squad for the Bayern game, as confirmed on Liverpoolfc.com:
Alisson, Mignolet, Kelleher, van Dijk, Lovren, Matip, Moreno, Alexander-Arnold, Robertson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Milner, Mane, Salah, Henderson, Sturridge, , Lallana, Shaqiri, , Origi, Phillips, Firmino
