Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice as Arsenal finished the season with a 3-1 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor but it wasn’t enough to clinch a top four place.
We started reasonably well with Aubameyang hitting the post with an early header while he should also have done better when put through on goal midway through the first half and it was all square at the break.
However, Aubameyang eventually broke the deadlock shortly after the break as he pounced on a mistake from Mee to race clear and slot past Tom Heaton to give Arsenal the lead in the 52nd minute.
The in-form Gabon hitman then doubled Arsenal’s advantage just over 10 minutes later as he lashed home a superb volley at the far post from an Alex Iwobi cross to make it 2-0 in the 63rd minute and make it five goals in two games.
Burnley pulled one back immediately as Ashley Barnes headed home after we failed to clear our lines and Aubameyang then missed a golden opportunity to complete back-to-back hat-tricks as he sent the ball wide of the post when unmarked 6 yards out.
The striker will rue that miss but he still shares the Golden Boot with Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah after finishing the season with 22 Premier League goals.
Arsenal sealed the three points with a late fourth as substitute Eddie Nketiah scored from a tight angle but we finish fifth in the table – one point behind Tottenham after they drew at home to Everton.
