Manchester United are in pole position ahead of Liverpool and Tottenham in the race to sign £60m-rated Leicester City star James Maddison this summer, according to the Independent.
Maddison came through the youth ranks at Coventry and enjoyed an excellent two-year spell at Norwich before earning a move to Leicester in 2018 and he was outstanding during his debut season in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old provided 7 goals and 7 assists in his 36 league appearances to help Leicester finish ninth in the table this season while he’s also tipped to become a senior international with England soon after representing his country at U21 level.
It seems Maddison’s impressive form has alerted top clubs in the Premier League as the Independent claims Man Utd have joined the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham in expressing their interest in the attacking midfielder.
Spurs are looking to further strengthen their squad as they look to build on reaching the Champions League final this season and Maddison fits the mold of player Mauricio Pochettino likes to work with as he’s a talented youngster who has the potential to get even better.
Jurgen Klopp is expected to make subtle changes to his squad after winning the European Cup and Maddison could be eyed as a potential replacement for Adam Lallana – who’s being linked with a move away from Anfield this summer.
However, the Independent claims Manchester United are now in pole position to sign Maddison after opening initial talks with Leicester over a possible deal to sign the young midfielder.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to be extremely busy in the market rebuilding his squad this summer and the Manchester giants are looking to focus their attention on bringing in young British talent.
The Independent says Maddison has now become a priority target for United but they’ll have to pay around £60m to force Leicester into cashing-in and no official bid has been put on the table as yet.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool or Spurs will step-up their pursuit to battle it out with United but Maddison would be a superb addition for any club that manages to lure him away from the King Power this summer.
