Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Man Utd’s pursuit of Ruben Dias…
Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Ruben Dias as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eyes a summer swoop for the £52m-rated Benfica centre-back, according to reports in Portugal via the Mirror.
Solskjaer is expected to be extremely busy in the transfer market over the coming weeks as he looks to revamp the squad that missed out on Champions League qualification after finishing sixth in the Premier League this season.
The Norwegian coach needs to make tightening his defence a priority as United conceded 54 goals in the league this campaign and the Manchester giants have been strongly linked with a move for Kalidou Koulibaly.
However, the Mirror claim United’s hopes of signing the Senegalese international are being scuppered by Napoli’s £105m asking price so Solskjaer is on the look out for alternatives and Dias has emerged as a prime target.
The newspaper says Man Utd scouts have watched Dias several times this season and the Red Devils are now eyeing a summer swoop as Solskjaer looks to fix his leaky defence with a key signing at the back.
United have now been handed a boost as the Mirror cite a report from A Bola that claims Benfica have failed in their attempts to persuade Dias to sign a new contract that would see his release clause increase from £52m to around £89m.
Therefore, as it stands, the 22-year-old defender is available for £52m which is around half what Koulibaly would cost and he’s also six years younger than the Napoli man so would represent much better value for United.
Dias is a product of the Benfica youth system and he’s developed into one of the best defenders in Portuguese football so he’d be an exciting addition if Man Utd could get a deal over the line this summer.

The Portuguese international has his best years ahead of him and I think he’d prove to be an upgrade on the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling if United manage to lure him to Old Trafford.
