Agent in London for talks with Arsenal as Emery eyes swoop for 27-year-old star
The agent of Torino centre-back Armando Izzo is in London to hold talks with Arsenal about a possible move to north London this summer
Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Armando Izzo….
The agent of Torino centre-back Armando Izzo is in London to hold talks with Arsenal about a possible move to north London this summer, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.
Unai Emery is expected to strengthen his defence over the coming weeks as a leaky back-line continued to be a major issue for Arsenal last season with the Gunners conceding 51 Premier League goals and 70 across all competitions.
A new centre-back is on the agenda as Shkodran Mustafi is being linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium while Laurent Koscielny has just one year left on his contract and isn’t likely to sign a new deal.
Callum Chambers is due to return from a successful loan spell at Fulham but it remains to be seen whether he’s in Emery’s long-term plans while Rob Holding is still recovering from a serious knee injury.
So Arsenal are expected to dip into the market for a new centre-back and we’ve been linked with the likes of William Saliba and Joachim Anderson in recent weeks but it appears Emery has also identified Izzo as a potential target.
That’s because Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb claims the 27-year-old’s agent, Paolo Palermo, is in London to hold talks with Arsenal chiefs about a possible move this summer.
Izzo only joined Torino from Genoa last summer and he was an instant success as he helped Walter Mazzarri’s side secure a seventh-placed finish last season while boasting one of the best defensive records in Serie A.
His impressive performances for Torino led to a call-up to the Italian national team and boss Roberto Mancini handed Izzo his first cap during a 6-0 win against Liechtenstein back in March.

It seems his form has also caught the attention of Arsenal and I think Izzo would be a solid addition to the squad but the defender still has four years left on his contract so we may find it difficult to tempt Torino into a deal.
